Download this tutorial as an Adobe PDF -- (Requires Adobe Acrobat PDF Reader) OverviewMany leagues today allow teams to keep players from one season to the next. Rules surrounding the keeping of these players vary greatly. Some leagues allow only 1 or two players to remain on a roster, while other leagues allow entire rosters to be maintained. Some leagues require that every player retained costs the team their top draft picks, while other leagues only cost the team the pick from the round where the player was originally drafted. pcDrafter provides the option for league owners to configure their league correctly, regardless of their specific league rules. For the purpose of this tutorial, we will assume that you already have pcDrafter running, and have already configured your league scoring rules, teams, and have a set of player projections imported. Step 1: Set the Proper System OptionTo correctly assign the player to the appropriate team and draft pick, you must first set a user option that will provide you with the appropriate screen when drafting a player. Select the Edit->Options menu located on the main pcDrafter screen. This will open the Options screen, pictured below.
On the Options screen, you should click on the Draft tab located at the top of the screen. This will take you to the page pictured above. On this screen, you should make sure that the first option for Do not prompt me with the Draft Pick Dialog when I make draft picks from the Min window. is NOT checked. (By default, this option is checked during the installation process.) Deselecting this option will provide you with the ability to correctly assign keeper league players from the main pcDrafter screen. Once you have deselected this option, click the OK button at the bottom of the screen. Step 2: Select the Keeper PlayerFrom the main pcDrafter window (pictured below), drag and drop the keeper player from the Available Player list to the Draft Round list. Alternately, you can also highlight the player and select the Draft->Draft Player menu. In the example displayed, we will be assigning Shaun Alexander to Team 5, using Team 5s first round draft pick.
Step 3: Select the Correct Draft Pick and League TeamIf you have set the user Option correctly from Step 1 and have drafted a player, you will now be prompted by the Draft Pick window, pictured below. Note that the information about our selected player (Shaun Alexander) is displayed at the bottom of the screen. The top of the screen displays the Round, Pick, and League Team that will be assigned to this player. Note that the default is the current Pick and Round is filled in by default. In our example, since our draft has not begun, we are starting with Round 1, Pick 1. Since we are going to assign Shaun Alexander to Team 5 using their first round pick, we will leave the Round 1, but change the Pick to be 5, as pictured in the image below.
Note that Team 5 has now become the League Team. Now that we have selected the correct draft pick to use for Team 5 to keep Shaun Alexander, we will select the OK button on this screen. Step 4: Validate the Player AssignmentOn the main pcDrafter screen (pictured below), you should now see Shaun Alexander assigned to Team 5, using their first round pick.
You can continue to assign players by dragging-and-dropping into the Draft Round list and setting their correct draft choice. If you make a mistake and need to undo an assignment, simply select the player in the Draft Round list and select the Draft->Undraft Player menu option. Then, you can reassign the player to the correct team. When you get ready to begin you real fantasy draft, you can either leave the Draft Pick window enabled, or simply follow Step 1, and now check the option to hide this prompt. One More ItemNote that you can leave the Draft Pick window enabled during your fantasy draft is you want to have a further validation when a player is drafted. It may also be useful in cases where a league owner may miss their pick for some reason, and you want to continue on the draft and have other teams make their selections until the tardy team resumes drafting. |
